Curtis Cameron Sentenced to Prison for Crime Spree

Mount Vernon, WA – Curtis Lee Cameron was sentenced to Eight years and four month is prison this morning after pleading guilty to 43 Criminal Charges in Skagit County Superior Court.

26-Year old Curtis Lee Cameron was arrested on October 23rd, 2017 after attempting to elude Officers for several days throughout different areas of Skagit County, including areas of Prairie Road, Parkridge Place and Park Ridge Lane in 2017.

A Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to stop a vehicle on October 23rd, 2017 near the area of North Laventure and Hoag Road that he recognized as being used in a suspected burglary earlier in the day.

When the Deputy made contact with the vehicle, Cameron jumped out of the passenger’s side of the vehicle and began running, according to a press release at the time from Lt. Greg Booth of the Mount Vernon Police Department.  The driver was taken into custody and a manhunt ensued for Cameron.

The manhunt involved two boats,  K-9 Units from the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office along with the Marysville Police Department, the Bellingham Police Department and the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and a helicopter from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Officers deployed tear gas in an attempt to get Cameron to surrender without success.  SWAT and High Risk Tactical teams along with negotiators were able to make contact with Cameron around 5:00 p.m., before he climbed almost 15 feet into a tree wearing only his underwear.  Eventually, the negotiators were able to talk Cameron down and Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to take Cameron into custody and booked him into the Skagit County Community Justice Center in Mount Vernon for a variety of charges.

Cameron was accused of 43 separate charges including 4th degree assault, Theft of Firearm, Burglary 2nd, Assault 1st, Theft 2nd, Arson 1st, Trafficking in Stolen Property 1st, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Identity Theft, Possession of a Stolen Credit Card, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Community Custody Violator,  among other charges.  He was being held in Lieu of $785,000 bail.

After serving his prison sentence, Cameron will have to serve 18 months of Community Custody.
