Anacortes, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a high risk crash around 11:51 p.m. on August 4th, 2017 on Rosario Road near Sharpe Road, about a half mile South of Anacortes.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, a 16-year old female from Anacortes was riding a bicycle Westbound on Rosario Road when an Eastbound 1998 Lexus GS400 crossed the double yellow Center line and struck the bicyclist head-on.
The driver of the Lexus, 23-year old Faris Diemert of Anacortes fled the scene in the vehicle, leaving the bicyclist laying in the roadway. Troopers later located DIEMERT and the vehicle and took him into custody for suspicion of Driving under the influence, vehicular assault, hit and run, ignition interlock violation and driving on a suspended license. The vehicle was impounded to the Washington State Patrol bullpen in Burlington.
The 16-year old teen was seriously injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment where her condition is unknown.
