Skagit County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle crash involving a log truck and passenger car on Higgins Airport Way at the intersection of Ovenell Road around 3:43 p.m. on November 19th, 2019.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 63-year old David Espedal of Arlington was traveling Northbound on Higgins Airport Way in a 2015 Kenworth Log Truck towing a 2014 Trailer.
Troopers say 43-year old Jason Lynch of Oak Harbor was traveling Southbound on Higgins Airport Way at a high rate of speed in a silver 2001 Chevy Cavalier. As Espedal attempted to turn his log truck westbound onto Ovenell Road it collided with Lynch’s vehicle. Jason Lynch died at the scene as a result of the crash. A passenger in his vehicle, 36-year old Tyler Chrismon of Oak Harbor was injured and treated at the scene. Espedal was not injured in the crash.
Troopers say all three men were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash and drugs or alcohol were note a factor in the crash. The cause remains under investigation.
The Log Truck was damaged and impounded by Budget Towing of Mount Vernon. The trailer was not damaged and released to the owner on scene. It was then unloaded at the scene onto another truck and the trailer was transported to a shop in Oso. The Cavalier was towed by Carl’s Towing of Burlington.
