Burlington Woman Dies in Fatal Hit and Run Collision on I-5 near Alger

Skagit County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a fatal hit and run collision on Southbound I-5 near the Bow Hill Rest area around 1:17 a.m. on November 20th, 2019.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol,  53-year old Tonya Pearson of  Burlington was walking in the Southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near the Bow Hill Rest area (milepost 237) when she was struck by an unknown vehicle.  Troopers say the driver  did not stop and the woman was later struck by a second vehicle, a 2016 commercial vehicle and trailer being driven by 46-year old Jason Merrill of Mariposa, CA. That driver, according to Troopers, stopped and called for help.

Troopers say Pearson  died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

If you have any information about the hit and run driver or the  collision you are asked to contact the Washington State Patrol and reference case number 19-025070.
