Ferndale Man Killed in Suspected DUI Crash on Alger Cain Lake Road

Alger, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash in the 300 block of Alger Cain Lake Road, around 12:46 a.m. on October 7th, 2019.

According to a press memo from  the Washington State patrol, 31-year old Mark Kamphouse of Maple Falls was traveling Northbound in the 300 block of Alger Cain Lake Road in a white 2002 Ford Econoline Van when he crossed the centerline and struck a Southbound 1998 Mazda Protégé head-on. The Mazda left the roadway to the left and the driver,  62-year old Eric Howard of Ferndale was killed in the crash.  Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.

Troopers say Mr. Kamphouse is suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash and was not injured in the crash. He was booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center on an INVESTIGATIVE HOLD for Vehicular Homicide. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Trooper say the cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Both Vehicles were impounded to the Washington State Patrol Bullpen.
