Two Marblemount Men Arrested For Drive-By Shootings

Marblemount, WA – On July 9th, 2019 around 6:05 p.m., Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a threatening incident with “shots fired” in the 61000 block of Cascade River Road in Marblemount.

According to court documents, obtained by SkagitBreaking.com through a public disclosure request, 50-year old Jeffery Lane Stafford of Marblemount allegedly pulled up next to the property on B&W Road and stopped his vehicle before pulling his vehicle in front of the driveway on Cascade River Road. Court Documents say, Stafford and another man, identified as James Warrant Wright then allegedly exited the vehicle, pulled out long guns, and began firing into the  trees over the head of two subjects on the property.

Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies recovered forty-five  .223 Remington and 7.62 x 39mm casings at the scene.  Video surveillance from the home also showed the shooting taking place.

Later in the day, around 8:56 p.m., Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint in the 7800 block of Ranger Station Road.  The reporting party told deputies, that Jeffery Lane Stafford had allegedly come to his residence with another man and started yelling words to the effect of “it all ends now” as the two men  tried to kick in the door to the home before they were confronted by a female, who the men told they had guns, before they decided to leave.    Surveillance footage from that home allegedly confirmed the reported attempted burglary.

Jeffery Lane Stafford was contacted and taken into custody during the service of a search warrant at his home in the 59000 block of State Route 20.  Stafford admitted to the drive-by shooting and going to the second residence.  Court Documents show Stafford told Deputies he was trying to make the criminals in the area fear him.

During a search of Stafford’s vehicle, Deputies found a white powdery substance believed to be methamphetamine. Stafford also told Deputies that the guns belonged to his friend, James Wright.

Stafford told Deputies that he did not regret what he had done, and said “he will do it again until the crime problem in Marblemount is Solved.

Jeffery Lane Stafford was booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center on an INVESTIGATIVE HOLD for charges of  No Contact Order/Protection Order Violation 2nd, Drive-by Shooting, Attempted Residential Burglary, Assault 2nd, as well as 2 previous warrants from 2011 for  Driving on License Suspended 1st Degree and Violation of Driving Under the Influence Restrictions and three civil complaint incidents from 2016. He is currently being held in lieu of $85,000 bail.

James Warren Wright was booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center on an INVESTIGATIVE HOLD for charges of Drive-By Shooting, Attempted Residential Burglary, 8-Counts of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 1st Degree, Assault 2nd with a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm 2nd Degree and a 2013 3rd Degree Theft Charge. He is being held in Lieu of $50,000 bail.
