Teen Driver Crashes Into Moses Lake Police SUV During Pursuit

Moses Lake, WA – A 15-year old Moses Lake teen wanted on a felony warrant for a probation violation led Moses Lake Police  Officers on a pursuit that ended when the teen crashed into a Moses Lake Police SUV.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, Moses Lake Police Department “Street Crimes” Officers located a 15-year old teen wanted for a Felony Probation Violation, driving a green 1998 Dodge Stratus in the area of South Division Street and Fifth Avenue around 6:20 p.m. on May 30th, 2019.

Street Crimes Officers requested assistance from Moses Lake Patrol Officers and followed the vehicle until the Patrol Officers arrived. The Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the teen, who’s name has not been released due to his age. The teen failed to yield to Officers and lead  them on a pursui0 through multiple neighborhoods before ending in a crash.

A Moses Lake Police Officer had gotten ahead of the chase according to an article in iFiberone.com and was attempting to setup spike strips to stop the teen when the teen failed to stop at a stop sign  at Evergreen Drive and Hill Avenue and crashed into a 2017 Fully Marked Moses Lake Police Department Ford Explorer.  The Force of the crash pushed the Police SUV  into three unoccupied parked vehicles including a purple 1997 Honda Accord, a white 2014 Chevrolet Sonic and a Blue 2003 Chevrolet Silverado Pickup.

31-Year old Moses Lake Police Officer Edgar Salazar was injured in the crash and transported to Samaritan Hospital for treatment.

The teen driver and teen passenger were both taken into custody at the scene. The driver was booked into Juvenile Detention on his outstanding felony warrant and he faces numerous additional charges including felony eluding of a police vehicle, multiple driving related offense and possible assault charges for crashing into the Police SUV.

Officer Edgar Salazar, a 4-year veteran with  the Moses Lake Police Department,  was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital on Thursday Evening.

Troopers say drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.
