Administrative Assistant – Fire Department
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, this position independently performs the duties for managing the department administrative functions, the office, and specific areas of responsibility. This position creates and maintains management information system to include budgeting, performance evaluations, and incident reporting. This position functions as the administrative assistant to the Fire Chief and must have the ability to maintain confidentiality. This position performs a wide range of administrative assignments and complex secretarial work in support of department operations and various department staff in addition to the Fire Chief. This position requires frequent, extensive contact with department and City staff; general public, elected officials, and multiple organizations—requiring the accurate interpretation of departmental policies, procedures, standards, and requirements. This position requires problem solving ability, ability to use independent judgement regarding the dissemination of information to the public and must be consistent with department and City rules and regulations. All assigned duties are expected to be performed in an effective, efficient, and safe manner.

- Minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age; High School Diploma required. • AA degree required; preferably related to the field of business administration or the like. • BA degree in related field preferred. • Customer service experience required. • Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible office experience, administrative, and secretarial experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills, knowledge, and ability to perform the functions of the position. • Must possess a valid Washington State Driver’s License and a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
Must be able to successfully pass the following: • Written Civil Service Examination • Oral Civil Service Examination
