Arlington Police Department Annual Awards Presentation for 2018

(Arlington, WA) – The Arlington Police Department’s annual award ceremony was held on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center. The Department honored community members, volunteers, and other city staff for their contributions in supporting the Arlington Police Department and its mission. In addition, a number of officers were recognized for their hard work, efforts, and excellence in 2018.

The evening was started with a special dedication of the evening in remembrance of retired Arlington Police Chief Steve Robinson who passed away in September after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

The following is a complete list of the award recipients:

Community Awards: Presented in recognition of dedication to community partnerships through their extraordinary commitment to public safety and support of the Arlington Police Department to:

  • Cascade Valley Health Foundation for donation of an ATV to the department
  • Rotary Club of Arlington for donation of AEDs to the department

Chief’s Service Award: Presented in recognition of efforts and dedication to improving the functionality of the Arlington Police Department information technology systems:

  • Tony Orr, for outstanding service reflecting credit upon himself, the City’s Information Technology department, and the City of Arlington

Volunteer Awards: Presented in recognition of their hard work, dedication and exemplary efforts to provide extraordinary customer service, these volunteers have displayed incredible integrity and sense of civic duty in playing a key role to help meet the department’s mission to improve the quality of life in Arlington to:

  • Rich Stommel, for his exceedingly high level of customer service, knowledge, can-do attitude, and all around support to the
  • Kimberly Casteel, for community outreach coordination, Pennies for Puppies, and K9 fundraising.

10 Years of Service: Presented in recognition of staff in the Arlington Police Department that have served 10 years with the department.

15 Years of Service: Presented in recognition of staff in the Arlington Police Department that have served 15 years with the department.

20 Years of Service: Presented in recognition of staff in the Arlington Police Department that have served 20 years with the department.

  • Officer Ken Thomas
  • Detective Mike Phillips

Chief’s DUI Award: Presented in recognition of efforts to reduce traffic fatalities through diligent enforcement of DUI laws and the detection and apprehension of intoxicated drivers operating on the roadways of Snohomish County, Washington State.

  • Officer Alex Donchez

Chief’s Traffic Enforcement Award: Presented in recognition of efforts to increase public safety on the streets and highways in the City of Arlington through the use of both enforcement and education in addressing dangerous behaviors that compromise traffic safety.

  • Officer Stephanie Ambrose

Chief’s Community Engagement Award: Presented in recognition of efforts to build sustainable partnerships for the purpose of reducing crime, protecting the image of law enforcement, and applying a collective vision for the benefit of the entire community.

  • School Resource Officer Justin Olson

Commendations:

Merit: Presented to officers who, in the line of duty, heroically reflect only the highest traditions of law enforcement service and the profession they represent.

Life-Saving: Presented to officers in appreciation for the prompt and unselfish act of rendering aid and assistance to a citizen that resulted in the saving of a life.

Valor: Presented to officers who, in the line of duty, knowingly perform an act of personal bravery at hazard to life under circumstances evincing a disregard of personal consequences.

Police Employee of the Year: Since 2003, the Arlington Police Department has honored employees who display unusual excellence during the course of that year. Employees are awarded this distinction after being nominated by their peers and or supervisory staff, and upon the concurrence of the command staff. Employees who receive this honor display the highest values of the police profession including Teamwork, Respect, Integrity, Professionalism, and Innovation.
