Skagit County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on State Route 9 near Martin Road around 2:43 p.m. on January 6th, 2019.
According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 67-year old Joseph Zilinek of Maple Falls was traveling Northbound on State Route 9 in a blue 2017 Subaru Impreza when his vehicle crossed the centerline for unknown reasons. 32-year old Manjeet Brar of Abbotsford was traveling Southbound on State Route 9 in a white 1998 Kenworth Semi with a black 2014 Trascraft Trailer. Troopers say Brar attempted to avoid a collision and struck the guardrail. The vehicles collided driver’s side tire to driver’s side tire. The Subaru came to rest in the ditch and the semi truck and trailer came to rest against the guardrail, blocking the roadway.
Mr. Zilinek was transported by Paramedics to United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley and Airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for Treatment. Mr. Brar was not injured in the crash.
Troopers say drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash and both drivers were wearing seat belts. The cause of the crash is pending investigation and possible charges against the driver of the Subaru are pending investigation.
