Motorcyclist Injured, Woman Arrested After DUI Crash


Whatcom County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on Vista Drive near Fox Road around 5:43 p.m. on November 8th, 2018.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 24-year old Larrissa Barber of Bellingham was traveling Southbound on Vista Drive in a red 2013 Ford Focus when she crossed the center line near Fox Road and struck a 1993 Kawasaki Motorcycle Head-on.  The driver  of the motorcycle, 30-year old Johnathon McCoy of Blaine was thrown onto the Northbound Shoulder where his motorcycle also came to rest.  Barber’s vehicle came to rest down an embankment on the Northbound shoulder.

McCoy was injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham before being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with multiple leg fractures.  Troopers say McCoy was wearing a USDOT compliant Helmet and has a valid motorcycle endorsement.

Barber was injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital before being arrested and booked into the Whatcom County Jail for suspicion of Vehicular Assault and Felony Driving Under the Influence.

Both vehicles were impounded to the Washington State Patrol Bullpen for safe keeping.
