Whatcom County, WA – Whatcom County Search and Rescue teams launched a recovery mission this week  to find the remains of two snowboarders who went missing on Mount Baker in November of 2017.  According to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year old Drew Lenz and 22-year old Jake Amancio of Bellingham disappeared last November while snowboarding.

In September, Two men on a day hike discovered personal belongings in an  area that is a significant distance away from the trail in the Upper Swift Creek Drainage area of Mount Baker. The hikers turned the location of the belongings  over to Whatcom County Sheriff’s Officials  and Search and Rescue Members launched two recovery missions to follow-up on the tip with assistance from the families of the missing men.

During the search for the missing men, Search and Rescue teams were able to find belongings and human remains that appear to be from one of the snowboarders.

The human remains were recovered and turned over to the Whatcom County Medical Examiners Office to be officially identified.

Search and Rescue crews will set out on additional searches in the same area this weekend in hopes of recovering the remains of the 2nd missing snowboarder.
