Many Stores Inside Cascade Mall Sit Empty

Burlington, WA- Several local citizens have written in to us at  SkagitBreaking.com and asked us if we know what is going on with all the empty stores inside the Cascade Mall in Burlington.

There have been many rumors about what is going on but we wanted to get to the bottom of the rumors and find out what is really going on at the mall and why there are so many empty stores.

SkagitBreaking.com reached out to Jim Alexander, with Merlone Geier Partners, a representative of the owners of the Cascade Mall for comment via email. The response from Jim Alexander was “Thanks for your e-mail. We are very optimistic about the future of Cascade mall but as a policy we do not comment in the press.”

Our next stop was the City of Burlington Building Department, where we asked if there were any building permits or building plans submitted for the Cascade Mall.   We were told there are no current building plans or permits submitted to the city for any construction or work at the Cascade Mall and like many others they have also heard many variations of rumors of plans, but nothing officially submitted.

A very outdated Property Leasing Capsule and  Flyer on the Merlone Geier Partners website shows the Cascade Mall is 64.04 acres with a total of 2,789,450 total square feet and a gross leasable area of 446,430 square feet.

At the time of the last update on their  website, it listed 19 available spaces. A07, A08, A09, A11, A13, A16, A17, B04, B10, B11, C03, D08, D09, D12, E07, E08, E09, F01 and V22. These combined spaces show a total of 42,900 square feet available.

JC Penny is listed on their website as one of four nationally recognized “anchor tenants” but have since closed their doors, and left  49,666 square feet of empty space.

Eagle Furniture, currently leasing the former Sears Building space,  is also going out of business and are currently having a Going Out of Business Sale. When they close their doors, they will leave  73,943 square feet of empty building space.

Several other tenants listed on the “List of Current Tenants” have also went out of business.

To answer the many questions we’ve received, we don’t know what the future of the Cascade Mall holds. After reaching out to the Mall Owners and their Representatives, we still haven’t been able to verify any of the rumors that we’ve been asked about. Below is a video of a brief walk through the center of the mall. Click the YouTube Video below  to view the empty stores at the mall.

In the meantime, hopefully Skagit County Residents and visitors can still shop at and enjoy visiting the Cascade Mall businesses that are still open, including T.J. Maxx, Macy’s, AMC Cineplex Odeon Cinemas, Chuck E. Cheese, Children’s Museum of Skagit County, Kay Jewelers, Victoria Secret, Bath and Body Works, and a handful of others.
