Langley Man on Bicycle Injured After Running Into Car


Island County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a vehicle vs bicycle crash at Furman Avenue and Sandy Point Road in the town of Langley around 7:01 p.m. on June 12th, 2018.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 56-year old Peter Oakley of Langley was traveling Eastbound on Sandy Point Road on a bicycle when a silver 2005 Hyundai Elantra also traveling Eastbound moved into the Westbound lane to pass him. Troopers say after the driver of the Elantra, 39-year old Belinda Locke of Langley passed the bicyclist she moved back into her own lane and came to a stop to turn Northbound onto Furman Avenue when the bicyclist ran into her vehicle.

Mr. Oakley, the bicyclist,  was injured as a result of the crash and he was transported to Providence Hospital for treatment. His bicycle was released by Troopers to the Langley Police Department for safe keeping.

The Elantra was not damaged and driven from the scene. The driver was not injured in the crash.

The cause of the crash is listed as under investigation and charges are not expected in the crash.
