Oak Harbor Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

Whatcom County, WA– The Washington State Patrol responded to a single motorcycle crash on Eastbound State Route 20 near Milepost 127 around 12:44 p.m. on May 13th, 2018.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 22-year old Fernando Gutierrez of Oak Harbor was traveling Eastbound on State Route 20 just West of Diablo Road on a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R750 motorcycle.

Troopers say as Gutierrez approached a curve in the road he was unable to negotiate the curve, crossed the fog line, and drove into the tree line, striking a tree.  Mr. Gutierrez died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Troopers say the cause of the crash was speed too fast for the curve. Mr. Gutierrez had a valid motorcycle endorsement and was wearing a DOT compliant helmet at the time of the collision and drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the crash.

The motorcycle was impounded by Carl’s Towing for safe keeping.
