Skagit County, WA – Road Construction crews will begin a road-widening project on Lafayette Road at 8 a.m. on Monday, May 14th, 2018. The Lafayette Road Improvement Project is a partnership between Skagit County, the City of Burlington and the Housing Authority of Skagit County. The project begins at the intersection of Gardner Road and runs east on Lafayette Road approximately 1300 feet.
Pavement pulverizing and roadway excavation are first on the schedule of work and drivers and residents in the area should plan for delays during the construction period which is expected to last between May 14th and mid July of 2018. The cost of the project is estimated between $1,280,000 and $1,390,000. Skagit County and the Housing Authority of Skagit County will each be contributing to a portion of the costs.
Contractor crews working for Skagit County Public Works will add several improvements including a center turn lane. They will also widen the existing travel lanes. Curbs, gutters and sidewalks will be added on both sides of the roadway, and a storm drainage system will be added. The City of Burlington Sewer system will be extended through the project area as well.
Residents in the area should expect Loud noisy work Monday through Friday from 7a.m. until 5 p.m. until the project is done.
