Skagit County, WA– The Skagit County Coroner’s Office has identified the human remains found by a climber on Mt. Eerie on March 3rd, 2018 as that of missing Anacortes man, Jason Lee Pietrzykowski.
According to police records obtained by Skagitbreaking.com through a public disclosure request, Mr. Pietrzykowski was last seen on December 4th, 2017 around 8:00 a.m. He was reported overdue on December 6th, 2017 but the family member did not want to file a missing person’s case at that time.
On December 27th, 2017 Pietrzykowski’ s vehicle was located at the top of Mount Erie at the lookout. A citizen had reported the vehicle had been there ten days and assumed the owner was arriving each day before them and leaving after them, until that particular day, when it was snowing outside and the reporting party realized the vehicle hadn’t moved from the day before and notified law enforcement.
The Skagit County Sheriff’s Office organized a search and rescue mission and 10 volunteers from Mountain Rescue, 2 Ground Search and Rescue members and a Human remains detection K-9 with tracking capabilities from Snohomish County was brought in to search for Pietrzykowski. Searchers covered the main trails as well as about 20 yards off of each side of the trail system as well as the base of the cliffs around Mount Erie as well as some overhanging areas. The search did not turn up any signs of Pietrzykowski.
On January 2nd, 2018, a Deputy responded back to the Mount Erie area and conducted an aerial search of the area using one of the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office “drones”. The aerial footage showed no signs of Pietrzykowski.
On March 6th, 2018, Mountain Rescue volunteers located the human remains using the GPS coordinates given by the climber and returned them to the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office SAR Deputy.
On March 9th, 2018, the Skagit County Coroner’s Office with assistance from Dr. Bell and King County Medical Examiner, Dr. Kathy Taylor confirmed the remains belonged to 41-year old Missing Person Jason Pietrzykowski of Anacortes, WA.
