Modesto, California- A former Skagit County woman has been found dead in California and Police Say they believe her husband killed her.
According to a press release from the Modesto Police Department, Officers were called to 1504 Coffee Villa Drive in Modesto, CA around 12:18 p.m. on Tuesday, April 3rd, 2018 after a teen called 9-1-1 to report that he found his mother dead.
Modesto Police Sgt. Eric Schuller told the Modesto Bee that Officers immediately searched the home and found the body of a woman, but no one else was found in the home.
Officer later identified the deceased woman as 47-year old Shannon Kalia (Chu) Simpson. The cause and manner in which she died has not been released by detectives.
The suspect, pictured below, is the woman’s husband, 51-year old Kelvin Simpson. Mr. Simpson is believed to have fled the area following the murder of his wife and he has ties to the King, Snohomish and Skagit County areas of Washington State.
Court records from the Stanislaus Superior Court show that a Kelvin Lee Simpson was arrested in July of 2016 and pleaded no contest to a felony charge of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant in November of 2016.
The Modesto Bee further reports Mr. Simpson was sentenced to probation and had a restraining order issued against him in the case. Court records also show that in September of 2016, he faced charges including attempted murder, inflicting corporal injury on a spouse/cohabitant, assault likely to produce great bodily injury and threatening a crime with intent to terrorize. The case was dismissed in late November of 2016 according to the Modesto Bee.
Shannon Kalia Simpson was a coder for Kaiser Permanente, a Health Care provider in Northern California. She previously worked for an Orthopedic Surgeons Office in Mount Vernon, Washington.
Shannon Kalia Simpson previously lived in Sedro-Woolley and has family in the Skagit and Snohomish County area. Her sister, Lisa Chu-Greenough posted on Facebook ” Yesterday my life was changed forever! My heart is aching and broken! I lost my one and only sister! The Sister who named me….the sister who teased me…who smacked me around…who coached me through my first child-birth and who I adored so much I named my first-born after her! Our Family is just devastated!” In a separate Facebook Post, Lisa writes ” Please to all my friends down south. This disgusting excuse for a human being has connections down south. Seattle and Everett area. Please call 911 if you see his cowardly face and help our family find justice for our beloved Shannon! “
