Hiker rescued near Newport, Oregon

Jan. 2, 2018 a nineteen year old hiker was medevaced from a cliff, located close to Whale Cove. Lincoln City dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at 4 p.m. about a man having medical issues. He was not able to be moved by local rescue teams.

The hiker had reportedly been suffering from seizures and was now immobilized. The Coast Guard Sector North Bend sent an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to transport the man hiker to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospitals. Local Depoe Bay Fire and Rescue, as well as Coast Guard Station Depoe Bay were on the scene to assist in the rescue.

The wind and terrain prevented the aircrew from hoisting the hiker, so the helicopter landed in a tide pool 100 feet below the cliff. The crews were then able to safely carry on with the medevac.
