Arlington Man Airlifted To Harborview After Motorcycle Crash


Bow, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a three motorcycle collision on Allen West Road at T Loop Road around 12:56 p.m. on September 24th, 2017.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, three motorcyclist were traveling Eastbound on Allen West Road toward T-Loop Road when the crash occurred. Troopers say, 56-year old Rodney Fields of Arlington was riding a silver 2011 Harley Davidson when he failed to break before making contact with a red 2017 Harley Davidson being driven by 47-year old James McCallum of Littleton, Colorado.

Mr. Fields was ejected from the motorcycle and the motorcycle came to rest blocking the Eastbound Lane.  Mr. McCallum pulled off to the shoulder and stopped.

Troopers say a third motorcyclist, 48-year old Peter Childs of Arlington laid down his black 2017 Harley Davidson Motorcycle in an attempt  to prevent colliding with Mr. Fields or his motorcycle that was  laying in the roadway.

Mr. Fields was injured and airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.  Troopers were unable to determine if he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash but said he had a valid motorcycle endorsement.  His motorcycle sustained reportable damage and was impounded for safe keeping by Carl’s Towing.

Mr. McCallum was reported to be wearing an US D.O.T  Compliant helmet but did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement. HIs motorcycle received non reportable damage and was towed from the scene.

Mr. Childs was not injured. Troopers say  he was wearing an US D.O.T compliant helmet and had a valid motorcycle endorsement. His motorcycle sustained reportable damage and was driven from the scene. ‘

Troopers say the cause of the crash was inattention and following too close.

No charges are expected.
