Big Lake, WA – The Skagit Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) has identified the man who was shot by a Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy after he assaulted another Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy with a Knife inside a residence on Stonewood Drive near Big Lake around 6:00 p.m. on July 25th, 2018.
According to a press release by Washington State Patrol District 7 Public Information Officer, Trooper Heather Axtman, the suspect in the incident has been identified as 32-year old Lionel Brown of Mount Vernon, WA.
On July 25th, at approximately 6:00 p.m., two Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 9-1-1 hang up call from a residence on Stonewood Drive near Big Lake. Shortly after dispatchers received the call, two Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the residence and were able to enter the home due to a possible domestic violence situation that they heard occurring inside.
During the course of their initial investigation the Deputies learned that the domestic violence situation was between two adult brothers. While the Deputies were still inside the home, one of the brothers armed himself with a knife and assaulted one of the deputies. The second Deputy fired his service weapon, striking Mr. Brown. Mr. Brown was transported to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon and then later transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with Serious injuries. The Deputy sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released.
Mr. Brown was released from Harborview Medical Center on Saturday, July 28th, 2018 and booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center in Mount Vernon around 3:30 p.m. the same day on Charges of Assault 1st Degree for the assault on the Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy. He is currently being held in lieu of $150,000 bail.
