Knife Wielding Man Shot After Assaulting Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputy Near Big Lake

File Photo

Big Lake, WA – Skagit 9-1-1 Operators received a hang up call from a home in the 24000 block of Stonewood Drive in Big Lake around 6:00 p.m. on the evening of July 25th, 2018.

Shortly after the 9-1-1 call was placed, two Skagit County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived at the residence and were able to enter the home due to a possible domestic violence situation they heard occurring inside.

During the course of their investigation into the incident,  Deputies learned that the domestic violence stemmed from an argument  between two adult brothers in the home. One of the brothers armed himself with a knife and assaulted one of the two Deputies.  The Second Deputy fired his service weapon, striking the male in the chest, stopping the assault on the Deputy.

Once Deputies had the man detained and the scene was safe, Firefighters and EMT’s from the Big Lake Fire Department responded  to the scene along with   Paramedics from Medic 2 and the Medical Supervisor to assist with treating the male for his gunshot wound.  The male was then  transported via ambulance  to Skagit Valley Hospital in Mount Vernon before being transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with serious injuries.  The Deputy who was assaulted by the man with the knife  sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released.

The Skagit Multiple Agency Response Team (SMART) responded to the scene and is investigating the shooting incident.

The SMART team did not release the names of those involved in the incident.
