Whatcom County, WA – According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, drugs or alcohol are suspected to be involved in a crash that occurred on the evening of Monday, July 2, 2018. The crash involved two vehicles, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, and a 2017 Kenworth semi-truck.
The 2005 Silver Toyota Tacoma was driven by Eduardo Fernandez, 26, of Lynden. This vehicle was traveling southbound on Enterprise Road, which is about one mile north of Ferndale, when it failed to stop at a stop sign on Destiny Road. The Tacoma entered into oncoming traffic, colliding with the Kenworth semi-truck. The driver of the semi, Mark A. Silves, 52, of Bellingham, was not injured in the crash.
The driver of the Toyota Tacoma, along with a passenger, Brady V. Maas, 22, of Everson, were injured in the crash and were transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham. According to The Bellingham Herald, via a release from Bev Mayhew with St. Joseph Hospital, both men were in critical condition as of Tuesday, July 3rd, 2018.
The cause of the crash is listed as “Driving under the influence” and there will be further investigation into what, if anything, the driver will be charged with.
