One Dead in Single Car Accident on Lummi Shore Drive

Ferndale, WA– Troopers from the Washington State patrol responded to a single vehicle rollover crash about  5 miles South of Ferndale  around 5:30 am, on June 6th, 2018.

According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, a 1997 Red Honda Civic driven by 29-year old Logan Carmona, of Bellingham was  traveling westbound along Lummi Shore Drive, approaching Haxton Way, when it failed to negotiate a curve and left the roadway to the right entering a slough.

The vehicle rolled and came to rest on its top in the slough, fully submerged in water. Troopers say Carmona and a passenger were in the car when it crashed. Carmona was not wearing a seat belt and was able to exit the vehicle.  His passenger, who was not identified because next of kin notification had not been made, died as a result of the crash.

Carmona was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham before he was  booked into the Whatcom County Jail for investigation of Vehicular Homicide.

The vehicle was impounded to the WSP Burlington bull pen.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation but Troopers say they believe  Alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
