Island County, WA – The Island County Sheriff’s Office Camano Island Precinct responded to a 9-1-1 call for a body found on a property near Tamarack Lane on South Camano Island around 2:30 p.m. on March 3rd, 2018.
According to a March 5th, 2018 press release from the Island County Sheriff’s Office, Detectives from the Island County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Island County Coroner’s Office and members of the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab served search warrants on the property and recovered the body of a white female who had been deceased for several days.
Near the victim, detectives located a bunker dug into the hill-side that contained supplies, firearms and ammunition. These items were seized and the woman’s body was recovered and transported to the Island County Coroner’s Office.
On March 6th, 2018 an autopsy was performed on the woman’s body. The Island County Coroner Office positively identified the deceased female as 26-year old Katherine Cunningham. The manner of death was confirmed as homicide and the cause of death was listed as “Homicidal Violence with Decapitation.” The death is believed to have occurred at least several days before the discovery.
Based on Information obtained during the investigation, the Island County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on the whereabouts of a person of interest, 34-year old Jacob Gonzales. Mr. Gonzales is described as being a Hispanic male who is 5’9″ tall. He weighs around 150 pounds and has black hair and hazel eyes. He is believed to be driving a green 1990 Mitsubishi Montero, Washington License AYE2639 and may be headed to the Central or Southern California area. Gonzales is believed to be armed and dangerous and Law Enforcement asks that the public does not approach him.
