Port Angeles, Wa- A sick Navy sailor was medically evacuated from aboard the U.S.S Kidd on the afternoon of March 4. The U.S.S Kidd was transiting the Straits of Juan de Fuca, when the Coast Guard conducted the medevac.
The 23-year-old male sailor was airlifted by a crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter Coast Guard Air Station Port Angeles. He was flown to Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, and was met by emergency medical services that transported him to Island General Hospital where he received further care.
Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound received the medevac request from the command of the U.S.S. Kidd at 1:44 p.m. The Port Angeles crew landed aboard the ship at 3:20 p.m. At the time of the medevac, the sailor was in stable condition.
