King County, WA – At approximately 3:48pm on February 6, 2018, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) received a call from a citizen that stated an attempted carjacking had occurred on WB SR 520 to NB I-5. Once troopers arrived at the scene, they determined that this was actually a diamond theft.
The victim stated that he was traveling around the Seattle and Bellevue area to local clients/jewelers, and was on his way to his last client in Seattle. He was exiting from WB SR 520 to NB I-5 when a dark-colored sedan made an abrupt lane change and slammed on the brakes, causing the victim to brake hard and come to a stop.
At this time a second vehicle intentionally struck the victims’s car from behind, and two men wearing bandanas approached his vehicle. They broke out both front windows, struck the victim several times, grabbed the bag of diamonds (total value of $400,000) from under his legs, and also took the key fob for the car as well as the victim’s cell phone. The suspects also demanded that he open his trunk, where they stole a large suitcase.
The victim had his phone tracked to 650 NE 42nd Street in Seattle, where is was discovered abandoned in a grassy area. The victim was treated at the scene by the Seattle Fire Department, and was then transported to the WSP office where detectives took photos and interviewed him.
Detectives are seeking any additional witnesses or information about this crime, to include someone that may have seen a phone thrown from a vehicle at the Seattle address listed above.
