Everett, WA – Project Freedom Ride (PFR), a non-profit based out of Sedro-Woolley, Washington has partnered with Klein Honda of Everett, Washington to rescue 100+ unwanted dogs from high kill shelters in Texas. It is estimated that thousands of dogs get euthanized daily in shelters in Texas and PFR focuses on saving those they can.
The rescued dogs will depart Texas on January 26th, 2018 and travel over 2,000 miles through California, Oregon and into Everett, Washington where they will arrive at Klein Honda sometime before noon on Tuesday, January 30th.
Through a series of reference checks and Skype/FaceTime interviews, Project Freedom Ride arranged direct adoptions of approximately thirty of the dogs in California, Oregon and Washington. Several of the dogs will be delivered to those forever homes as they make their way to Klein Honda in Everett. These forever families have agreed to adopt the dogs without ever meeting them.
The remaining dogs (80+) will be transferred to local rescue partners in Oregon and Washington to find their forever families through local adoption programs, including NOAH, Kitsap Humane, and The Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce County, as well as Family Dogs New Life (in Portland, OR), Animal Protection Society of Friday Harbor (on San Juan Island, WA), and Humane Society of Jefferson County (Port Townsend, WA). This transport is the largest ever for Project Freedom Ride. PFR was started in December of 2016 and in their first twelve months, PFR was able to save 720 dogs from being euthanized though their direct adoptions and rescue partners.
PFR is a 501(c)3 operating under SAFE in Texas Rescue. They are 100% donation funded, with each transport costing anywhere from $5,000 to $12,300 a month. Supporters and donors are key to their success. Thanks to the generous donation from Klein Honda of Everett, PFR was able to arrange this large transport and save these 100 dogs from being euthanized.
Project Freedom Ride has received a lot of attention recently after 6-year old Roman McConn’s video went viral. Roman is the 6-year old son of the mom who started PFR. View Roman, the 6-year old who helps save shelter dogs video by clicking here.
