Troopers Respond to 11-Car Chain Reaction Crash in Whatcom County

Whatcom County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to an 11-vehicle chain reaction crash on Northbound I-5 at Milepost 254 in Whatcom County  around 8:00 a.m. on January 8th, 2018.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, vehicles one through eleven were all traveling Northbound on I-5 when the chain reaction occurred.

The State Patrol said drugs or alcohol are not suspected in the crash and they have  identified the following drivers as being involved.

Vehicle 1 Driver: 26-year old Thomas Dyehouse of Camas, WA. Driving a 1996 Honda Accord 4-door. Not injured. Seat belt used. Reportable damage, driven from scene.

Vehicle 2 Driver: 30-year old Jorge Araiza-Estrada of Lynwood, WA. Driving a green 2006 Ford F150 Pickup. Not Injured. Seat Belt Not worn.  Reportable damage, driven from scene.

Vehicle 3 Driver: 19-year old Jacob DeCook of Bellingham, WA. Driving a blue 2003 Volvo S80 four-door.  Not Injured. Unknown if seat belt worn.  Reportable damage, driven from scene.

Vehicle 4 Driver: 52-year old Michael Lindeman of Bellingham, WA. Driving a 2013 Porsche 911 two-door.  Injuries not reported. Seat Belt worn. Reportable damage, driven from scene.

Vehicle 5 Driver: 26-year old Annemarie Borg of Bellingham, WA. Driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla Sedan. Not injured. Seat Belt worn. Reportable Damage. Towed at owner request.

Vehicle 6 Driver: 46-year old Forest Jacobson of Tacoma, WA. Driving a 2017 Honda Pilot Suv. Not Injured. Seat belt used. Vehicle Totaled. Impounded to Johnsons Towing for safe keeping.

Vehicle 7 Driver: 28-year old Ciara Villaluz of Bellingham, WA. Driving a silver 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan.  Seatbelt worn.  Not Injured. Vehicle Totaled, owner arranged tow.

Vehicle 7 Passenger: Juvenile Female. Seat Belt Used. Injured. Transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham for treatment.

Vehicle 8 Driver:  46-year old Leo Hill of Bellingham, WA.  Driving a grey 2013 Dodge Journey Suv. Seat belt worn. Not injured. Reportable damage to vehicle, vehicle driven from scene.

Vehicle 9 Driver: 21-year old Alexander Butterworth of Bellingham, WA. Driving a 2002 Subaru Legacy Station Wagon.  Seat belt worn. Not injured. Reportable damage, vehicle driven from scene.

Vehicle 10 Driver: 47-year old Matthew Miller of Bellingham, WA. Driving a 2008 Honda Odyssey Van. Seat Belt worn. Not Injured. Reportable damage to vehicle, driven from scene.

Vehicle 11 Driver: 33-year old Tiffany Barrios of Bellingham, WA. Driving a white, 1995 Econoline Motorhome. Seat belt worn. Injured. Transported to St. Jospeh’s Hospital in Bellingham, WA. Reportable damage. Driven from scene.

The roadway was blocked for nearly three hours. Troopers say the  cause of the crash and the causing vehicle are still under investigation.  Possible Charges are pending.
