Oak Harbor, WA-
According to the NAS Whidbey Island Facebook page, there was an incident this morning near Ault Field. A Sailor reported hearing a noise that sounded like gunfire at about 5AM. Base officials secured access to and from Ault Field and took all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of all personnel. All personnel at Ault field were ordered to shelter in place for the time being.

There is currently limited access to and from Ault Field, but the order to shelter in place has been lifted. There are also portions of the base that are closed off as base officials continue their investigation. It is advised that all personnel should stay clear of the cordoned areas.

Although there were initial reports that this was possibly an active shooter situation, there is no actual evidence of gunfire and no casualties have been reported. NAS Whidbey will continue to provide updates as they become available.
