WSP Troopers Respond to Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision In Oak Harbor

Island County, WA- According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, troopers responded to a two-car motor vehicle collision near the 800 Block of Silver Lake Road, which is one mile north of Oak Harbor. The collision occurred on December 29, 2017 at about 6:15AM.

The press memo states that Peter Heller (age 38) of Oak Harbor was eastbound on Silver Lake Road in a 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck when he crossed the center line. He struck a westbound Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Joshua Peterson (age 29), also of Oak Harbor. Both trucks were totaled in the collision and were impounded by Christian’s Towing.

The driver of the Chevrolet S10 pickup (Peter Heller) was not wearing a seatbelt and was declared deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.

The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup (Joshua Peterson) was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the collision. He was released at the scene.

The cause of the collision is listed as “crossing center line” and there are no charges pending. It is believed that drugs or alcohol were involved.
