Whatcom County, WA – The Nooksack River from the Lummi Indian Reservation boundary to the confluence of the North and South Fork will be closed December 3rd, 2017 through December 31st, 2017 for Chum retention.
According to a press release from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife the reason for the closure is because Chum returns to the Nooksack River and to the Kendall Hatchery are not meeting escapement goals. The Closure is necessary to ensure natural escapement and hatchery brood stock goals are met.
In order to achieve shared conservation goals, the Nooksack Tribe and Lummi Nation are closing their chum fisheries on the Nooksack River as well.
The North Fork Nooksack Closes effective December 1st, 2017 to chum retention per permanent rules. Game fisheries will remain open as listed in the Sport Fishing Rules 20147/2018 Pamphlet edition, Fishing In Washington.
