High Wind Warning in Effect for Western Skagit County

Skagit County, WA – The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a High Wind Warning for San Juan County, and Western Skagit and Whatcom Counties starting on Monday.

The High Wind Warning is in effect from 6 AM to 6 PM on Monday, November 13th, 2017.  Southerly Sustained winds of 30-40 miles per hours are likely with gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour.

Most likely the High Wind will affect areas along the shoreline the worst, including La Conner and Anacortes.  The strongest wind is expect Monday midday through Monday afternoon.

Residents should watch for falling trees and limbs and expect power outages and possible minor damage in the area.

Falling trees or large branches have been known to cause fatalities during windstorms. High Winds can topple trees onto roads, vehicle and rooftops. Downed power lines can cause power outages lasting a couple of hours or longer. The National Weather Service advises residents to secure outdoor items or light-weight outdoor furniture before the potentially damaging winds arrive.
