Several Teens Injured in DUI Crash in Whatcom County

Whatcom County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a single vehicle collision on Westbound State Route 542 near milepost 51, 49 miles East of Bellingham around 6:42 p.m. on November 4th, 2017.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, a 16-year old Juvenile male from Sedro-Woolley was traveling Westbound on State route 542 in a gray 1998 Chevrolet Blazer when the vehicle left the roadway to the right and continued down a steep embankment before coming to rest approximately 250 feet off the roadway.

Troopers  say the 16-year old driver was driving under the influence at the time of the crash  and not wearing a seat belt. He was injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham for treatment.

A 17-year old male juvenile passenger in the vehicle from Blaine was injured and transported  to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham.  Troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.

18-year old Tiana Ramer of Lynden was not injured in the crash. Troopers say she was wearing a seat belt.

19-year old Jasmin Scott of Bellingham was not injured in the crash but Troopers say she was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital to be checked for injuries. Troopers say she was wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the crash is listed as “driving under the influence” and charges of Driving under the influence are pending against the juvenile driver.

The vehicle was totaled and will be recovered at a later time.
