Mount Vernon, WA – The Mount Vernon Police Department arrested the owner of a Psychic reading business in the 1300 block of E. College Way for theft on Monday, October 30th, 2017.
According to a press release from Lieutenant Greg Booth of the Mount Vernon Police Department, on September 20th, 2017 a resident of Island County, reported to the Mount Vernon Police Department that she had turned over a large sum of money to the suspect in return for the psychic’s services of “spiritual cleansing and destroying evil energy.” The psychic initially informed the victim that the money would be returned when her work was completed. The victim attempted to get her money back, but was told by the psychic she needed to bring additional money in order for all of the money to be returned.
The victim, believing she was being lied to, sought assistance from a private investigator our of Florida, who specializes in these cases and who was familiar with the suspect in this case. The suspect had previously owned a similar business in the Florida area, according to the release.
On October 6th, 2017, Mount Vernon Police Detectives met with the private investigator as well as investigators from the Seattle Police Department. Detectives learned details of previous cases involving the same suspect, and were able to obtain financial records for the current victim, assisting in their investigation.
Detectives were able to build a case against the psychic and obtained a search warrant for the business which was served on Monday, October 30th. During the warrant service, the 69-year old female suspect was arrested and later booked into the Skagit County Community Justice Center. Detectives were able to obtain business and personal financial records, which will assist them as the investigation continues.
