Camano Island Man Injured in Crash Near Smokey Point

Snohomish County, WA – The Washington State Patrol responded to a two vehicle crash on Northbound I-5, just North of the Smokey Point Rest Area on May 27th, 2017.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 38-year old Joseph Spinks of Arlington was traveling Northbound on I-5 in a 2014 Ford Focus.  The press memo states Mr. Spinks was in lane one.

54-year old Thomas Snyder of Camano Island was also traveling Northbound I-5 on a 2003 Harley Davidson Motorcycle. The press memo states Mr. Snyder was in lane three.

Troopers say the driver of the Ford Focus crossed lane two and three and struck the back of the Harley Davidson Motorcycle.  The motorcycle rider was ejected from the bike and it came to rest in Lane Two.    The driver of the Ford Focus pulled to the left shoulder approximately 300 yards from the crash site.

The driver of the Ford Focus was not injured. The motorcycle rider received serious injuries and was transported to Providence Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the crash is listed as Driving under the influence, and the driver of the Ford Focus is facing charges of Vehicular Assault and Driving Under the Influence.
