Island County, WA – The Island County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 9-1-1 call from a resident on Dixie Lane around 7:35 p.m. on May 15th, 2017 for reports of a bloody man holding a rifle who was knocking on their door.
The caller told 9-1-1 dispatchers that there was a male in his 30’s who knocked on the door while holding a rifle and he had blood on his neck and clothing. The man told the occupants of the home that he had been stabbed earlier in the day but did not tell them who had stabbed him.
Island County Sheriff’s Deputies and medical units arrived on scene and determined the injuries were several hours old. The male subject refused to say who stabbed him, but told Deputies the injuries occurred several hours prior to them contacting him.
While medical personnel prepared the man for transport to the hospital, he told deputies that he was under the influence of Methamphetamine and thought he heard people chasing him down, trying to kill him. The man then told deputies instead of being killed by the people chasing him he decided to try to kill himself before they could do it.
Deputies determined the wounds appeared to be consistent with self-inflicted injuries, including several “hesitation marks”, and a bloody knife was recovered from the mans pocket that appeared to be of the appropriate size and style as to have caused the injuries.
The Man was transported to Whidbey Hospital with serious but non life threatening stab wounds and cuts.
The Island County Sheriff’s Office impounded the rifle the man was holding for safekeeping and Deputies continue to investigate the incident.
