Sedro-Woolley Man Jailed After DUI Crash in Ferndale

Ferndale, WA- The Washington State Patrol responded to a crash on Northbound I-5 south of Ferndale around 9:45 p.m. on April 10th, 2017.

According to a press memo from the Washington State Patrol, 39-year old Felipe Sanchez of Sedro-Woolley was traveling Northbound on I-5 near milepost 261  in a black 1995 Honda Accord in lane one of two.

Troopers say Mr. Sanchez attempted to pass a red Chevrolet pickup by moving into lane two. The pickup was  being driven by 37-year old Steven Vinson of Bellingham.  The driver of the truck also moved into lane two, striking the Honda on the passenger side.

The press memo states the Honda rotated, striking the truck. Both vehicles came to rest in the median.

Mr. Sanchez was not injured and he was  arrested and booked into the Whatcom County Jail for investigation of driving under the influence and vehicular assault.

Mr. Vinson was injured and transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bellingham for treatment.

The cause of the crash is listed as lane travel and driving under the influence.

Both drivers were reported to be wearing their seat belts and both vehicles were impounded to the Washington State Patrol Bellingham Bullpen.
