Mount Vernon Man Arrested For Vehicular Homicide


Burlington, WA – Officers from the Burlington Police Department were dispatched to a car vs pedestrian collision in the 800 block of Cassandra Court around 11:45 p.m. on March 27th, 2017.

According to a press release from Burlington Police Officer Mike Lumpkin,  the truck, a white Ford F-150 and the driver, a 26-year old Mount Vernon man were still on scene when Officers and Paramedics arrived. Paramedics immediately began to render aid to a 24-year old Mount Vernon woman who was injured in the collision. The woman was transported via ambulance to Skagit Valley Hospital in  Mount Vernon where she died from her injuries.

The Driver was later determined to be the husband of the woman and witness told detectives just prior to the collision, the husband and wife had been arguing. According to Lumpkin, Investigators from the Washington State Patrol responded to assist in documenting the scene.

As a result of the investigation, the driver was taken into custody and booked into the Skagit County Jail for Investigation of Vehicular Homicide, Domestic Violence, and Driving Under the Influence.

Burlington Police did not identify those involved, but online jail booking records identified the driver as Jose Cruz. He is currently being held on an investigative hold  in Lieu of $250,000 bail.
